The National Institute for the Physics of Matter (INFM)
Laboratory for Technology and Nano Science (TASC) is
INFM's first national laboratory. With a scientific
staff of 50, including INFM and university associates,
the institute acts as a service-oriented national resource
for academia and industry, providing new materials (semiconductors,
oxides and carbon-based films) for nanofabrication (nanostructures
for electronics, photonics, and space and biomedical
applications) and access to a wide set of characterization
techniques.
Among TASC's most important responsibilities are to
operate six beamlines at the ELETTRA synchrotron radiation
facility for both in-house and external research.
Besides conducting basic research in the fields of
surfaces, interfaces and gaseous phases, the institute
places special emphasis on the study of the magnetism
of nanostructures.
A National Facility for Nano Litography (LIFAT) has
been set up at TASC by INFM to increase the research
and production capabilities for INFM, academic and industrial
users.
